The Second L’Consolite

The L’Consolite Student Film Awards is the much-anticipated awards night of the fourth years ever since the second semester had begun back in November 2008. The concept was only launched in the previous schoolyear, 2007-2008, which makes this the Second L’Consolite Student Film Awards of LCC-IS.

BTW. It’s Lay Con Soh Light. Not El Con Soh Light. :)

Winners are rewarded with trophies or certificates for their hard work in their final TLE/Computer projects of the schoolyear. The sixth graders work on PowerPoint presentations, and the sophomores and juniors on table skirting and cake baking (as winners in the interclass baking competition last year our group also had our cake presented during the Awards Night).

On our case, as fourth years, we have been given an opportunity to create our very own movie in groups of ten per class and, as a Peterite, I am veryyy proud to say that all four groups in our class, Grade 10-St. Peter, have made it into the Top Ten movies among the nineteen that passed their project. :)

-CUT-

I had bought a red and black cocktail dress supposedly for the Masquerade scene in the morning, during the Language Festival, but when Nikko declared that long ball gowns were needed, I rented this cute purple gown at Jenny’s (Plazamart) for no less than a thousand pesos. Why so costly? Well, it’s new, and the store owner claims I was the second user (hell lol). I wanted to look for a red and black gown at first because I really love the color scheme, and I wanted something similar to my cocktail dress lol. But I had no time to find any, and I didn’t find any during my window shopping lolz. Anyhow, the purple looked cute. I’m not used to having my shoulders and arms so exposed, so I was a little nervous. Hahaha. Yikees.

-CUT-

The program was scheduled to start at six-thirty but, of course, well . . . hello!  Filipino time, people! lol. It stretched up and started at around seven thirty in the evening, with a series of drum beats and a fashion walk by several ultraskinny girls clad in quite fashionable gowns (I honestly did not find them that attractive, because they were so skinny. No offense but that’s just my opinion). The casts of the top ten movies assembled in the backstage, doing nothing but wait, talk, take pictures and complain about being tired of waiting (that includes me).

The first thing we all did was pose by group behind two sets of white cloth and having the spotlight shine upon it, so the silhuoettes of our figures would be seen, while a short trailer of our movie is played on the white screen at the third floor balcony. I think everybody was already cramming about what to do at that time lol.

The voiceover for the movies and other presentations at the white screen was done by one of LCC’s best students who graduated in 2007, I guess: John Edward Yong. His batchmate, Michael Poblacion, also came back to serve as the program’s emcee, and I think the planners could not have picked a better choice for the job. He’s probably the best emcee I have ever known, with his smooth masculine DJ-like voice and calm persona. Yikees.

SHORT BREAK!

To be honest, I find it veryyy ANNOYING when people applaud after a person sings a prayer or the National Anthem. Hello, it’s a prayer. It’s the country’s anthem. Why the hell would you clap? I understand that they probably like the person’s voice but applauding at that time makes you look totally stupid. GEEZ.

END OF SHORT BREAK

Intermission numbers were mostly presented by teachers, plus two pairs of juniors who sung Sway and Super Troopers. The English area chairperson, Mrs. Geriane (woot! XD), our art club moderator, Sir Bacosa, and the Filipino area chairperson, Ms. Cansancio (aka Tita Leah lol), had a number where each of them sung a different song. I knew that Mrs. Geriane and Sir Bacosa were good singers, but I had no idea that our Filipino teacher could sing as well! It was unnerving, I felt weird seeing our straitlaced teacher singing. Hahaha.

. dot . dot . dot .

Well, we won Best in Cast Ensemble and have been nominated for other awards (can’t remember them) which included Best in Musical Score. After that I was already contented. After all, we already got into the Top Ten. That’s already worth a lot of my efforts and late-night editing. Haha! :)

The BIG letdown, though, was that nobody in our class won the Best Motion Picture or the Movie of the Year. Lolz. The nominees were Kutob, Succubus, and Road Trip. I was betting on Succubus, since they were nominated more than seven times I think, but the award went to Road Trip—group of Katz from the PH and my third cousin, Katherine, whom I do not personally know very well lol.

I didn’t appreciate very well their movie because I wasn’t able to finish it, but I think their cinematography and makeup were astounding (they won the Best in MakeUp Design and Best in Cinematography). Really. The way the camera moves—it looked so smooth and professional. And their makeup? Awesome. Their bruises looked so real, you’d think they’d really bumped their heads against a table just to have a genuine-looking bruise on their heads. lol.

But despite that, everyone was contented. Who wouldn’t be? This night was probably one of the most memorable nights in my entire high school.

Anyhoooo, go PANATAGS!
